On April 23, 2005, it was  planned to open for public attraction, but the date was delayed to May 21 as the park required more time for testing after final testing; two days before the final opening, a media event was held on May 19, 2005, and it became the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world.

Top thrill dragster “race for the sky” is the tagline for this speed machine. It is a high-speed steel hunk that was earlier the world’s tallest roller coaster until it was surpassed by Kingda Ka at Six Flags Great Adventure in 2005.

Top Thrill Dragster roller coaster is located at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio, United States. This roller coaster was opened to the public in 2003 as the world’s tallest roller coaster and the first full circuit roller coaster to exceed 400 feet. The high-speed trains will give you goosebumps as it speeds up to 120 mph in 3.8 sec. If you dare to open your eyes, the speed can scare you to the nerves, though it’s only a game of a few seconds.

The theme of top thrill dragster is based on top fuel drag racing, a motor racing category involving the world’s fastest accelerating cars. Originally the top fuel dragster weighed approximately one ton, while each train on the coaster weighed 15 tons. Its race was designed for five cars on each train, but when the ride opened, there were only four. A fifth car was added to each by midseason. Trains are painted in different colors Red, blue, purple, orange, maroon, or green.

Sometimes the rollback occurs on the roller coaster when the train is not launched with enough speed to reach the top point; it rolls back down the tower and is stopped by the brakes on the launch track. Rollbacks on roller coasters occur in cool, wet, or breezy weather or when the wind works against it. The launch tracks are equipped with retractable magnetic braking fins raised after each launch to slow the train down in case it does not reach the top of the tower.

Rollbacks occasionally occur when the weight distribution of the train, the force of the launch, and the wind stall a train on the top of the tower. To overcome this, a mechanic takes the elevator to the top and pushes the train down.

The design was changed a few times during the first season to create lighter trains on Top Thrill Dragster. By midseason, the fifth cars were serviced, making the trains five cars long as planned.

Originally the dragster theme included an engine, tires, and a fin occupying the last row of each car. These were removed, and seats were installed in their place.

Due to the nose shape, the front car always has settings for two riders, so there are 18 riders per train.
